#24 See the Biggest Ball of Twine in MN

Seeing this twine ball has been on my bucket list for quite some time now, but I've never actually made the time to go. I added it to my "26 Things" for this year so that I would make it a priority. Well, summer came and (almost) went and I had still not seen it. I pulled up the website and found that they were closing for the season (the museum tours anyway, the twine ball is actually seen from the road) on October 1st. So I only had a month to go before it was too late! I messaged my mother and my mother-in-law, both had expressed real interest in seeing it in the past (my mother has been a big fan of the Weird Al song for a long time), and we picked a date to go.

We went on Friday the 9th (the same day Emma turned 2 months old). We listened to the "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" song a few times and talked the rest of the way. Emma slept the whole car ride and Jackson took a short nap, too.

We finally arrived at the world famous twine ball of Darwin! (Well, ok, maybe not world famous.)

And here is proof that I did actually make it there.

This is the perfect "WE MADE IT" shot with my mom, Jackson, and Candelyn.

This is what it looks like close up.

It's just a gross mess of twine. Pretty darn impressive though. I would not have had the patience. Apparently it look somewhere like 21 months of 4 hours a day of work to get it to what it looks like today.

And the Twine Ball museum and gift shop.

A man and his biggest accomplishment. I kind of hope he did other real and valuable things with the rest of his time.

Oh look! Heads in the twine ball. My mom and Jackson.

Candelyn and Jackson.

Jackson really liked this model house. He kept calling it the "better house." I'm not sure why. He did not want to leave it at the end.

I sure hope they like Weird Al...he put their little town on the map!

Jackson also enjoyed the dog house.

And the old school children's desks.

Emma had a massive blowout and of course I would forget to pack a back up outfit for her. I took her onesie off and told her that now she had to go naked. Sigh. My mom saw a pink twine ball onesie in the shop and bought it for her! So she had something to wear after all! Candelyn bought Jackson a twine ball shirt, too, but he didn't want to put it on. (He happily wore it the next day instead.)

We signed the guest book. We will be back here again. Maybe we'll drag Christian to it next year.

We made a quick stop at the park across the street but the mosquitoes were out so we left after only 5 minutes.

Mom and Candelyn, thanks for joining us and making it a fun trip!
